Update On Me?!?: Week 37

Hi family, friends, missionaries.
Here's a little update in the life of Sister Sorensen.
First, Just a quick few pics from beach P-Day this morning.

Of course Spike Ball

Currently I am serving in Daytona Beach!
So last week ended my 4 day trio with the NSB Sisters :(

My Heart Belongs In Florida
My dear friend Sister Brady started her last transfer. I'm just overjoyed I get to spend it around her.
I've learned so much from this lady about being myself and being a dedicated missionary. And how vital both are.

HAPPY 4th BY THE WAY! Tuesday was the greatest!
I got to pick up my new trainee, when I got there I found out all the other trainers with an exception of the Hermana (for obvious reasons) I have been a companion with. Super cool. It was a pretty great group but I might just be biased.
AND THIS IS MY CHILD. I love her already. Her name is Sister Schomaker from AZ and she's a super cute hard working diligent missionary already. Bonus she's my height.

We also got a family picture.
In this pic - the left of me is my trainer Sister Bromley, right of me is the first sister I trained Sister McCullough. And below us are the missionaries we are currently training.
(Sister Hunsaker, Sister Schomaker, Sister Stephenson)
We went out knocking doors and she was all ready to work and I was high-fiving a million angels.
That night for 4th of July we were allowed to be out late to watch the fireworks. We got pizza and watched them with Sister Lamborn and Sister Brad

Without fail every zone conference the Elders get a picture like this so we figured we should join the ranks.

When you're tracking in Daytona and you come across someone's weave.
This day was amazing by the way. We talked to everyone and picked up a couple of new investigators that day. And even gave a referral for the missionaries in Jamaica.

Sister Schomaker got to meet J. this week. I love my J.. Every time we come over we knock on the door and I just hear her yell "SISTAS JUST COME IN!" Ha-ha and she always calls me "baby", it's my favorite. J. is a funny woman, she amazing though. She keeps all her commitments; she has a strong desire to learn. But she's very strong willed and still has some issues with Joseph Smith that we are working through. I know she knows it's a sign that missionaries keep finding her even though there's no record. Her family also listened in on our last lesson as well so that was way cool.

Another cool person we meet this week was S., she's from Jamaica. We met her outside her complex as we were getting into our car and we taught her the restoration. She just immediately believed the first vision. We had to keep telling her to pray about it to receive that witness from the spirit but she was like “Nah I believe you, why wouldn't that happen?” Ha-ha.

Saturday we did weekly Planning because we were busy Friday. After that we went with the NSB Sisters to a local park, and set up a table with some copies of the Book of Mormon and pamphlets and two signs.

(Oh and sour patch kids)
After that we made an attempt to head down by the beach and walk around just holding the "What does Jesus Christ mean to you?" Poster.
Okay, let me tell ya. God is oh so good.
We planned to do this last week, I was praying all week that specifically this finding attempt would be an answer to someone's prayers. That night, the people we talked to the most - were Mormons. Two people in our areas that are less active whom we've never met before.
But that night as I was writing in my journal the spirit confirmed to me that my prayer was answered!
We may not have been the answer to a "new investigators" prayer or even those two less active members prayers, but those two people both mentioned that their parents are still very active in the church, and I'm positive they are praying for them to come home to the gospel. As I know as our Father in Heaven wants us home. And maybe in a small way we were an answer to those loyal parents prayers, proving that God is aware of the children they share. My heart was filled with so much joy when the spirit confirmed that to me.

I'm so grateful for the wonderful adventure my mission has been. It's been easy and hard and crazy and tiring and ultimately awe inspiring. I've cried and laughed and sweated (a lot.... it's Florida) and loved Every. Single. Minute of it.

One of the best scripture reading this week came for me by reading Ether 12. If you know me well you know that faith means everything to me. Faith is my word. I believe so strongly that faith can do anything, and without it I can accomplish nothing. Simply because of whom my faith is in. Ether 12 gives us countless examples that BY faith and ONLY by faith were miracles brought to pass. Faith is not only seen as the cause of the miracles but how. For example the brother Jared saw the hand of the Lord because of his exceeding faith but because it was things beheld with "an eye of faith". It's been easy for me to trust in the faith that I've experienced. Knowing God will deliver me out of certain circumstances because he has before. But real faith is in situations which you've never before encountered and have no possible idea of the outcome. While reading this chapter I came across a quote by Elder Holland that says,
"Faith is to agree unconditionally- and in advance- to whatever god may require in both the near and distant future."
For us to rely on faith we need however, as the latter part of Ether 12 explains - understand our weaknesses. But we have to be patient. God's timing is so much different that ours.
Elder Maxell says it's a funny thing that "We who wear wristwatches seek to counsel him who oversees cosmic clocks."
I've found it's so important to be aware of our weakness, because that's completely apart of the experience god sent us here to have.
While reading my blessing I always think that man I sounded like a much better person in the pre-mortal world, I've gone downhill. But it's my personal belief that I couldn't be fully aware of my weaknesses there because I wasn't in fallen world. It's not that I've become any less here; I just have been able to face things I couldn't before. And however frustrating - I'm grateful for that.
I'm sorry I don't want to get all preachy in my letters. But I’m amazed how much the scriptures can tell me when I'm open to receiving it. I'm grateful for being a weak and simple thing in the hands of the lord.

“Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? Tis nor so; all is right. All is well all is well.”

Have a good week my friends:)
