Let Your Light So Shine: Week 65 & 66
I am so grateful for our new prophet President Russell M Nelson, I know he is called of God.
What a blessing that Grandma Mollie’s example was righteous
enough where you were able to have the experiences you did with knowing how President
Nelson met and wrote your mother and my grandmother. I’ve never had to question you or
moms testimony. Do you know what a blessing that is to me? To have parents who
are truly truly converted to the Lord and the restored gospel. Being home
before I just thought, that everyone was like that. There not, the field has
shown me that. Those who do have a true solid testimony make all the difference
in the world. I’ll always remember it.
I now completely understand why one paragraph in my patriarchal
blessing is entirely dedicated to honoring my parents. : )

Week 66
So transfer news is… I
am getting transferred to Leesburg!!!
Yeah I was really
shocked because I thought I was staying for sure and everyone else did. But I
know it's the best possible thing that could have happened.
Sister Naylor will be
my companion, she came out with Sister McCullough (Sarah trained Sister
McCullough) and I've served in the same zone with her before. I loved her a ton
and we always talked about becoming companions.
Leesburg of what I
heard, has a lot more older people and a little less “high class” than Lake Nona.
Wow I’ve learned so
many valuable lessons from Lake Nona, it's definitely not been my easiest area,
it came with a lot of challenges, but I wouldn't trade my time here for
anything else because I learned a lot of valuable lessons and a lot about
myself.
This week was really
good though we got to on exchanges with the Spanish Sisters and I was with
Sister Wade, she is a very good missionary and we had a lot of talks about joy
and how joy looks different on everyone.
We also had a really
cool experience where we got a book of Mormon referral earlier this week, we
went by her house on Saturday and had a awesome lesson, she said she has been
seeing the book of Mormon ads on Facebook and more and more her heart has
pulled to them. She reads the Bible every morning. But she felt God was telling
her that she needed to read the book of Mormon and even though she didn't know
why. She said she felt she needed to be obedient to our Heavenly Father. I'm
really excited to see what ends up happening with her.
After the pictures Dad
sent me of President Nelson letter to Grandma Mollie, I’ve been thinking a lot
about her example. Growing up she was example to all of us in the family of
what we wanted to be like. As grandkids (who knew her very little or not at
all) we had stories, but those stories inspired us. I remember hearing about
how charitable she was, about how she made everyone feel welcome and like they
were her best friends. I like everyone else wanted to be everything she
was.
But it wasn't until here
and now that I realized exactly what that was.
She was fun and outgoing
and loving and kind and intelligent. But most importantly, more specifically to
all those things, she was righteous.
I understand now that every
beautiful thing we can become stems from our personal righteousness, only
because I understand now that every talent and every gift comes from God. And
we are only ever truly changed in Christ and never independently from him.
Because the scriptures have
taught me about this I want to share two independent chapters that mean a lot
to me.
3 Nephi 12:14-16
14 Verily, verily, I say
unto you, I give unto you to be the light of this people. A city that is set on
a hill cannot be hid.
15 Behold, do men light a
candle and put it under a bushel? Nay, but on a candlestick, and it giveth
light to all that are in the house;
16 Therefore let your
light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father who is in heaven
Than I found what that
actually looks like In Helaman chapter 5, Nephi and Lehi are in prison, after
preaching. They stand in a midst of fire and are not burned..Because of their
personal righteousness.
35 Now there was one
among them who was a Nephite by birth, who had once belonged to the church of
God but had dissented from them.
36 And it came to pass
that he turned him about, and behold, he saw through the cloud of darkness the
faces of Nephi and Lehi; and behold, they did shine exceedingly,
even as the faces of angels. And he beheld that they did lift their eyes to
heaven; and they were in the attitude as if talking or lifting their voices to
some being whom they beheld.
37 And it came to pass
that this man did cry unto the multitude, that they might turn and look. And
behold, there was power given unto them that they did turn and look; and they
did behold the faces of Nephi and Lehi.
When the one who had
dissented from the church turned around to look at them, they shined! And what
did he observe about them? That they had their eyes were lifted towards heaven.
Like 3 Nephi 14 teaches
us we let our light shine.. So that people will glorify our father who is in
heaven. Not ourselves. So that we can help people look to heaven to and connect
them to the Godhead.
I'm so grateful for our
