Once upon a time I got a letter saying I was coming from Orem Utah to Orlando Florida. No they sent me a letter saying I'm going from Orlando Florida to Orem. |
Hello again;
Here's a
practical update on my week.
Monday night we
had dinner and FHE with
the Sjuts. It stormed like crazy but we
were able to talk about doing the small and simple things and
help them figure out what they can improve upon. Dale fell asleep... But
that's not really anything new.

Anyway Tuesday
we helped Sister Werling out with
service for these people she works for. She’s a caretaker and there’s this lady that she sees 3 times a week. One
week while she was there
the ladies husband who is 93 years old mentioned that he almost joined the Mormon
Church as a young fellow. But his wife wouldn’t let him. We cleaned up their house and he admitted the same thing to us. He said
very plainly that if it weren’t for
his wife he would have been baptized. But he feels he’s getting close enough to
the other side anyway.
I just sat
there and thought about the wonderment of what his life
may have been like if he had made another decision, grandkids on missions. More
peace. They would probably have a family near by to take care of them. What's and ifs.
We’re going to
be joining them for KFC chicken soon and to celebrate their 69th wedding
anniversary. And hopefully we can help him have the motivation to read the
book of Mormon again and reap the blessings.
Wednesday we
had ZTM. Sister Naylor and I led a discussion on becoming a
consecrated missionary. We talked about; the what, the why, and the how.
We prepared hours for this discussion and pleaded that the Lord would fill in what we couldn’t and
that everyone would be
able to gather what they needed and that they
were willing. The whole zone training
meeting went wonderfully. We all committed to putting something on the alter of
sacrifice before we enter
the house of the lord for our semiannual temple trip that Friday.

Afterwards we all went out to
eat together, we got
special permission from
president to do so because
usually we’re not aloud to
do that sort of thing. But he said yes and he even came with us hahaha. So
we got Mexican food and
chatted and enjoyed each
other’s company. All 29 of us. I was telling a few of my mission stories and everyone was shocked. I didn't realize I've had such a crazy mission along with it being wonderfully spiritual. But anyway yes I've been having an adventure.
That night we had a lesson with Anicesha
and Sister Werling came with her grandson. We probably didn’t get a word in that whole lesson but it was exactly what
they needed because they both needed each other
and they bonded so well.
Sister Werling is even
getting her a job and she set up our lesson at her
house. Ah I love when
things turn out that way,
it just makes my heart so happy.
THE BEST TEXT OF UR LIFE |
I’m so lucky to
be here.
Thursday was a
busy day but it was a good day. We saw the Bartlett’s - Lucy and Jennie. Lucy
had so many wonderful questions. We got to read so much of the Book of Mormon
with her and she really is starting to soften up to it. We saw Ramone and he’s
doing well and is really enjoying reading the Book of Mormon.
Eating at my favorite place
|
And Sister Kelly
took us to..guess what my favorite restaurant. The ones where they cook all the
food in front of you. Sister Naylor had never been so it was fun to see her
reaction. We always drive by it and I want to go but ya know poor missionary.
Then we saw the
Strahleys and wow. Okay so I was really worried this family was going to try to
bash us. But man was I wrong and thank goodness for it right? Eric Strahley
was baptized when he was 17 years old but slowly became inactive and really
he’s never gone back. He got baptized in another church and is very active
there but lately he has said he feels that something is pulling him to the Book
of Mormon. Right now they are staying in a hotel. We sat on the ground outside
as he told us how for some reason everything from the Book of Mormon is coming
back to him, and he just started spouting off scriptures. He asked us how we
gained our testimonies and then he asked us how knowing that the Bible and the
Book of Mormon are true together would help him and his family, and instantly I
felt so impressed to talk about temples. As I explained the importance to him
of eternal marriage he stopped and just thought for a second and said, “Yes
that’s exactly what I want, that’s what I’m looking for.” Eric is the perfect
example of what it should look like to be consistently striving to be like our
Savior Jesus Christ. All I can say is that he just... gets it.

We got to go to
the temple Friday!
I love the
temple. We had to wake up pretty early but it was worth it. President allowed
for us to do more than just an endowment session, and that honestly was such
blessing. There was a lady in the temple that we ran into and she ended up
walking us around and showing us different rooms and that was a really cool experience
for us. Especially because while in the session I had a bunch of questions and
she just answered all of them without me even asking.
Sister Owen's getting transfered out of the blue, matching with the trio |
Saturday we
were on exchanges. I was with Sister Thompson and Sister Wright. We did a lot
of contacting and finding. We saw these two guys outside; they were smoking
something I was questionable about. But the spirit didn't restrain me,
so.. I turned to these young missionaries and I said "I'm going
to go talk to these guys, unless you are uncomfortable and are prompted against
it." They looked at each other nervously and one said, "let's do
it."
Turns out we
ended up having a real cool conversation with the guys. One of them said he has
been to a bunch of churches and he's never really gotten answers. (My goal that
day was to answer questions using the book of Mormon) and I told him to try
us.. I get all excited and his question goes something like "Does God have
a dad? And where's the true beginning."
Hahahahahahah
Anyway we gave
them a book of Mormon encouraged them to read Alma 34-40 and one of the guys
said, "Give me three weeks and I'll read the whole thing."
So something I
really have been working on is being able to answer people's questions with the
book of Mormon, I think it's important to teach out of the scriptures. It's a
gift I want to acquire for the rest of my life. To be able to answer questions
of the soul from my friends and children using the words as they’re placed
divinely. Sometimes we give answers based off something we've learned from
the scriptures instead of just letting the scriptures answer.
There's power
in using the word of God. Not only because they have the spirit of the Lord but
because you create an environment for people to know what to turn to when your
God. There is where you connect them to the Godhead. You connect them to their
true source for Revelation.
Let the Book of
Mormon do the talking.
